WESTERN AUSTRALIA

HOMICIDE

In 2015, there were 48 victims of Homicide and related offences in Western Australia. This represented a 33% increase from 2014 and contrasted with the decrease in the number of Homicide victims nationally over the same period. (Tables 22 and 25)


ASSAULT

There were 29,351 victims of Assault in Western Australia in 2015; a 17% increase since 2014. This was the largest increase recorded over the 12 month period in any state or territory for which data were available. (Table 23)

Female Assault victims increased by 21% (2,950 victims) in 2015 and comprised 58% of Assault victims recorded in Western Australia during the reference period. Male victims of Assault also increased in 2015 (up by 13% or 1,346 victims). (Table 23)



In 2015, more than half (51%) of all Assault victims in Western Australia were aged between 25 and 44 years (14,923 victims).

Almost three quarters (74%) of female victims and half (51%) of male victims experienced Assault at a residential location. Just under a quarter (23%) of all person victims experienced Assault victimisation at a community location. (Table 25)

Four out of five recorded Assaults (80%, or 23,607 victims) did not involve a weapon. (Table 26)


SEXUAL ASSAULT

The number of Sexual assault victims in Western Australia increased by 4% in 2015, to reach its highest level over the six-year time series (2,012 victims). The victimisation rate increased from 76 victims of Sexual assault per 100,000 persons in 2014, to 78 victims in 2015. (Table 6)

Three out of five (60%) victims of Sexual assault were aged between 0 and 19 years of age.
Females were six times more likely (1,723 victims) than males (277 victims) to have been a victim of Sexual assault. (Table 7)

Seven out of ten (73%) Sexual assault victims experienced victimisation at a residential location in 2015 (1,459 victims).


PROPERTY CRIME

In 2015, the number of victims of Other Theft increased in Western Australia by 14% (or 11,444 victims), while victims of Unlawful entry with intent increased by 7% (or 2,511 victims). Both of these offence categories reached their highest levels recorded since the commencement of the time series in 2010.

Of the 37,515 victims of Unlawful entry with intent recorded in Western Australia in 2015, seven out of ten victims (70%) had property stolen (26,311 victims); with around three-quarters (76%) of these experiencing victimisation at a residential location (20,016 victims). (Tables 6 and 8)
